Helping You Reach Your Educational Goals

In 1966, HGEA established the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund to honor the late Charles R. Kendall, who dedicated his life to the improvement of public employees throughout the state of Hawaii. Three scholarship opportunities are now offered by the fund. They include the C.R. Kendall Scholarship, the Russell K. Okata Scholarship, and the Union Strong Scholarship. The fund also helps members further their professional development with continuing education grants. HGEA has given more than 2,000 awards to deserving members and dependents of our union.

Eligibility

Awards are available to members and their dependents who are attending or plan to attend on a full- time basis a university, college, community college, vocational or trade school, or pursue other post- high school study. member must be in good standing for at least one year prior to the deadline.

How to Apply

All three of our scholarships now use the same application, with the Kendall and Okata Scholarships requiring a few more details than the Union Strong Scholarship. Just select the scholarship you're interested in when you start your application today.

The Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund needs your support! Please help us continue to make these invaluable educational opportunities possible. Your time and contribution will make a difference in the lives of fellow members and their families.

Volunteer

A majority of the annual contributions to the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund are due to the efforts and hard work of HGEA members. Fundraising events such as cookie bakes and golf tournaments are held year round to fund the scholarships.

Payroll Deduction

Voluntary payroll deduction is a simple way to contribute to the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund. All you need to do is complete the Voluntary Payroll Deduction form and designate an amount to be automatically deducted each pay period.
